In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at the Audubon Photography Awards, Farnaz Damnabi, teaching, black-and-white landscapes and a $116K estimate.

  • Winners of the 2023 Audubon Photography Awards from some 9,000 entries have been announced.
  • Farnaz Damnabi's best photograph was of Iranian Women Asleep on a Bus as he rode home from work one day. "I took it discreetly with my iPhone and I knew straight away that it was a powerful image," he writes. "I truly believe women in my country must be superheroes to overcome some of the rules and restrictions they face every day at home and beyond."
  • In 'Those Who Cannot Do, Teach,' but Why Is That? Mike Johnston posits only those who struggle can explain things. "If someone is naturally good at something and has never experienced problems, how would they know what the problems are?" he asks.
  • Landscape photographer Scott Davenport explains what draws him to Black and White Photography. "Pay attention to shape and form, light and shadow contrast, as well as texture contrast," he suggests.
  • Bryan Sheffield prices a multi-day shoot for Marketing Materials for a Medical Device/Software Manufacturer at over $116,000. "The photographer was awarded the project, and the production was a huge success," he writes.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
