In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at California dreamers, snapshots, a gift photo and bulb mode.

  • Inside California's Quirkiest Homes features environmental portraits, you might say, of certain flamboyant residents from California Dreamers by Sally Davies, published by Ammonite Press.
  • Kirk Tuck presents a Snapshot Gallery taken with his Sigma fp and a Carl Zeiss 28mm f2.8 ZM Bigon.
  • In Photographs Are Gifts, Mike Johnston shows his black-and-white image of Mennonite boys on bicycles watching dirt-track racing. "You never know where the next good picture is coming from," he marvels. And it is a good one.
  • In Use Bulb Mode, Hillary Grigonis adds to the list of tricks for photographing fireworks. After dialing in the exposure settings (f8, ISO 100), she recommends, "Press the shutter release as the firework heads up in the sky. Once the sparks have fizzled out, press the shutter release again."

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
