In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Gillian Laub, Scott Lowden, cameras under $1,200 and a new panoramic camera.

  • The Eastman Museum exhibit Gillian Laub: Southern Rites runs through the end of the year. "Southern Rites is a specific story about twenty-first century young people in the American South, yet it poses a universal question about human experience: can a new generation liberate itself from a harrowing and traumatic past to create a different future?"
  • Suzanne Sease features Scott Lowden's portraits from 1050 Ponce De Leon Place where the residents are always smiling. "I wanted to get to know the people who lived at 1050 and ask them -- why, with all that is against you, financially, physically -- are you smiling a genuinely beautiful smile?" he says.
  • Chris Gampat lists two Canons and two Nikons ass The Best Cameras Under $1,200 for beginners.
  • CS Muncy reports Jeff Bridges and SilvergrainClassics are developing a New Panoramic 35mm Camera based on the Widelux series with its rotating lens. A panoramic aspect ratio was available on some digicams (Sony comes to mind).

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
