In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Yul Brynner, mushrooms, Harold Davis, processing medium format files and cheaping out.

  • An Extraordinary Vision features a few of Yul Brynner's personal impressions of Hollywood on display at the Leica Gallery in Los Angeles until July 31. Hover over the image to read its caption.
  • Kate Mothes presents images of Hundreds of Fantastical Fungi in Ecuador's Reserva Los Cedros captured by mycologists Danny Newman and Roo Vandegrift over the last 12 years.
  • Harold Davis continues his quest of Making the World a More Beautiful Place One Image at a Time with Flowers Are Multitudes. The headline is the new tagline for his Web site.
  • Following his first medium format slide show, Kirk Tuck muses on The Limitations of Sharing Photographic Images on the Web. "At some point we have to take these high bit depth, 51-megapixel files and translate them in several ways," he groans.
  • Thom Hogan warns, Be Careful of Cheaping Out regarding accessories. "I'm a strong believer in buying quality in the first place. If you can't afford quality, don't buy until you can afford it," he writes.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look five years back. And please support our efforts...
