In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Stephen Wilkes, Kaya & Blank, Shaaz Jung, Dave Williams, medium format lenses, a Harold Davis presentation and cheap accessories again.

  • In From Dawn to Dusk and Back Again, Kate Mothes presents the panoramas of Stephen Wilkes that capture a single scene in more than 1,500 exposures over the course of a full day or more. Sixty of his images will be published in Day to Night by Taschen in August.
  • In Crude Aesthetics, Heidi Volpe interviews Işık Kaya and Thomas Blank about their nocturnal images of pumpjacks in the urban oil fields between Ventura and Ojai.
  • In Wildlife Photographer Documents Magical Moment When He Locks Eyes With an Animal, Jessica Stewart interviews Shaaz Jung about his series Jungle is Watching. "I hope this series inspires people to respect nature by silently observing the hidden beauty that lives amongst us," he says.
  • Dave Williams captured some Wildlife Wonders, including a little red fox and a big old mouse. "The best advice I can give to those of you wanting to give it a try is to be patient, concentrate on the animal's eyes, compose a great frame and don't ever intrude and make an animal feel uncomfortable," he writes.
  • Kirk Tuck ponders the New Lenses he would like to use with his new medium format Fujifilm. He's already ordered the Fujifilm 35-70mm f4.5-5.6 and has some 35mm lenses that work fine as well. But the Fujifilm 110mm f2.0 at $2,200 is on the horizon.
  • Harold Davis will present My Work Since the Pandemic at B&H Photo on Jan. 25. Davis will show his work and discuss his pandemic experience with the benefit of hindsight with a Q&A session afterwards.
  • Expanding on Thom Hogan's advice on the same topic yesterday, Jason Row suggest you Beware of Cheap Versions of These Photography Purchases. That would be tripods, bags, straps, filters and cleaning supplies. "Whatever your next photographic purchase is, you would do well to remember the idiom, buy cheap, buy twice," he writes.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
