In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Workampers, Hong Kong, Brad Walls, elephant slides, Stephen Wilkes, Joseph-Philibert Girault De Prangey, bold street photos, Photon and Generative Expand.

  • Timothy Eastman photographed Workampers who make their homes in RVs for his new book All the Past We Leave Behind. The images are accompanied by interviews with the subjects, many of whom talk about the kindness they have experienced on the road. "Everyone I've run across has been super-helpful, super-kind and welcoming and willing to help out," says one of them.
  • Kit Fan talks to Wong Chug-Wai about Hong Kong After Hong Kong, his photo book on his home town. "I walked to the four corners of a place searching for something in the past, something that no longer exists," he says of the project that downplays the city's stereotypical image.
  • In Swan Lake Meets Salt Lake, Brad Walls shoots a series of Sasonah Huttenbach, a member of the New York City Ballet's Corp de Ballet, on the salt flats from above. "Depending on your state of mind, your shadow could offer comfort or reflect a darker mood," he says. Huttenbach portrays both the Black and White swan.
  • Kate Mothes features Pi Cheng Hsiu's series documenting Taiwan's Disappearing Elephant Slides.
  • Suzanne Sease features Tapestries, the personal project of Stephen Wilkes inspired by the tapestries in the Vatican Museum. "I began to wonder if I could create a similar effect, incorporating multiple exposures, in a single image," he writes.
  • A Journey at the Dawn of Photography explores the photographs Joseph-Philibert Girault De Prangey took on a tour of the Eastern Mediterranean in 1842, the earliest to survive of the countries depicted.

  • Jasenka Grujin presents 21 Bold Street Photos that embody six principles that combine "technical skills, artistic vision and an understanding of the unique characteristics of urban environments."
  • Photon is new iPhone camera app featuring manual control of shutter speed, ISO, white balance, focus, and file formats plus focus peaking and a histogram. The app from LateNightSoft, creators of Camera+, requires iOS 16 and is available for $3.99/month, $19.99/year or $39.99.
  • Adobe's Pam Clark announced Photoshop beta has added Generative Expand and global language support for over 100 languages. Generative Expand is "a new frictionless workflow dedicated to expanding images beyond their original aspect ratios," she writes. After using the Crop tool to resize an image, you can have Generative Expand fill in the empty spaces.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
