In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at infrared, a ladder, the Falcam Maglink and Steve Huff's new camera.

  • in Conquer Harsh Summer Lighting With Infrared, Derrick Story writes, "The beauty of IR photography is that it thrives at times when normally we have to pack away our cameras and head for air-conditioned refuge." He details the remote control test to see if your camera sensor is sensitive to the IR spectrum so you can shoot IR with nothing more than a 720nm filter.
  • Kirk Tuck has a tip: Always Bring a Ladder. Even, as on this occasion, to play golf and take a few shots for a new book. "I knew I wouldn't have to light anything but as I was going over the shoot, step-by-step, in my head it dawned on me that a bit of elevation was going to make the shot work better," he writes. He was right.
  • Feroz Khan reviews the Falcam Maglink Shoulder Strap Lite, comparing it to the Peak Design equivalent.
  • In Rural Travels With the Nikon Z 9, Steve Huff reviews his new camera, replacing his Sony FX3 and Leica SL2s systems. He looked at quite a few alternatives, including the Z 7 II, Sony A1 and Canon R3/R5, and reflects on them as well.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
