In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at "the de facto picture of the year", Bloop, PhotoPXL, the ugliest house ever, another job completed, advice for waiters and AI Chat.
- In A Trump Mug Shot for History (gift link), Vanessa Friedman writes, "As soon as it was taken, it became the de facto picture of the year." She notes, "Words come and go, but imagery is a language everyone can understand. And this latest image is clear proof of a situation that is not within the former president's control. It cannot be airbrushed or filtered or otherwise altered."
- In Bloop Reel: Ibiza's Street Art Festival, Christian Sinibaldi photographs the annual street art festival that attracts artists from around the world. This year's theme is "believe."
- In Changes at PhotoPXL, Kevin Raber takes on the elephant in the room. "Changes in the photography industry are many. We have moved from analog to digital and some even moved back to analog. There are no more big trade shows like Photokina and PhotoPlus. There are no monthly printed photography magazines in the U.S. anymore. Even the largest Web site for photography, DPReview, was sold off." He describes a new direction for PhotoPXL in this 6:44 video:
- Mike Johnston has been searching for The Ugliest House Ever on Zillow. "The housing stock in America generally is a complete disaster," he writes. "Not one house in a hundred was actually designed by an architect for a particular site or neighborhood." He shows a few examples of what can go wrong.
- Kirk Tuck reports Another Job Completed after arriving early for the shoot. "But as they say in the service: If you're not early you're late," he writes.
- A Reddit poster asks the eternal question: As a Waiter, How Do I Take Better Pictures of People at Restaurants When They Ask Me to Take Their Picture?
- In Meet AI Chat, Your New Photography Assistant, Jason Row shows how he uses AI chat rather than AI imaging to get the picture. He starts with planning a shoot around Frankfurt.
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
