In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at 13 older photographers, Kim Praise, Marc Miller and Bettie Ringma, iphonography, camera straps and Bild Expo.

  • In 'It's Fun to Be Alive' (gift link), 13 older photographers show their work and describe this moment in their lives. The article is part of Can America Age Gracefully?, a series on how the country should prepare for the next big demographic shift.
  • Kim Praise used a drone to capture The Greatest Street in Angola. "On this day in June 2022, the sun was beating down and I wanted to show the market in all its color, movement and life and to situate it within the city at large," he says.
  • In Selling Polaroids in the Bars of Amsterdam, 1980, Erik Vroons reviews a new book of 'tronie'* photographs by Marc Miller and Bettie Ringma. "What started as a simple business model (camera + alcohol = money) eventually resulted in a remarkable record of a juncture in culture as Amsterdam transitioned from the late '70s to the early '80s," he writes.
  • In Photo 101: Watch Those Details! Mike Johnston talks about "glad to be alive" photos taken with his iPhone and a few iphonography issues as well.
  • Does Anyone Like Camera Straps? a Reddit poster asks. Among the various suggestions is buying purse straps online for a quarter the price of a camera strap. Black Rapid and Peak Design are amont the more frequent mentions.
  • B&H is celebrating its 50th Anniversary with the Bild Expo. "Bild, the Yiddish word for 'image,' represents B&H's 50-year commitment to supporting visual and auditory artistry," the company said. "Bild will inspire you with expert speakers, educational experiences, a world-class brand expo, contests and lots of ideas to help you grow your creativity."

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
