In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at photos of the week, the GFX 100 II's electronic shutter, Kevin Raber and Dianne Feinstein.

  • Alan Taylor presents 35 Photos of the Week including fencing at the 19th Asian Games in China, flooding in South Africa, the felling of a famous tree in England, an active volcano in Chile, a heat wave in Brazil, drag racing in England, the Ganesh Chaturthi festival in India, a 150-million-year-old dinosaur skeleton up for auction in Paris and more.
  • In his fifth test of the Fujifilm GFX 100 II, Jim Kasson asks, How Fast Is the GFX 100 II Electronic Shutter? It's an interesting test, pointing the lens-less camera at an LED moodulated at 120 Hz. It's the same speed at the GFX 100 and 100 S. "Fuji has advertised the GFX 100 II as having a faster readout rate than the GFX 100S," he writes. "From the looks of this test, that ain't right."
  • In The Idea Sounded Cool, Kevin Raber reports he's ratcheting down The Daily Chat to The Chat because "these videos require a lot of work."
  • The Guardian presents a slide show of the life of Dianne Feinstein, the longest-serving U.S. Senator who passed away yesterday at the age of 90. The Associate Press has a few more of her Groundbreaking Career in Politics.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
