In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Philip Perdue, African womanhood, the M3 era, camera-to-smartphone apps, Internet speed, prom tips, incomes, Metamer 1.3 and an AI Copyright judgment.

  • In On Photography, Oct. 7 and Palestinians Under the Gun in Jerusalem, Philip Perdue analyzes a series of images of Muslim worshippers praying on the street in east Jerusalem after Israeli police stopped men under 65 and women under 50 years of age from entering the al-Aqsa Mosque. "Angle and position can also be seen as one of the moral tests of war photography, as any event is understood to be what it is only after it is framed," he writes. "Passing or failing the moral test of the moment is a decision about what to include, what to leave out and how to compose an invitation to see things from a fair angle."
  • In Changing Takes Time, Caroline Kimeu covers an exhibition in Nairobi that mixes old with new portraiture and fine art with photojournalism to explore African womanhood.
  • In New MacBook Pros and iMacs Usher in the M3 Era, Jason Snell takes a look at the new systems Apple introduced yesterday. "If you're in the market for a new iMac or MacBook Pro, this is a big announcement," he writes. "But it's really just as big for everyone else who is wondering what the Mac line-up will look like over the next year." And in Spooky Gassed -- Trick or Treat?, Thom Hogan provides a photographer's perspective on the new offerings.
  • Derrick Story takes a look at Connecting a Camera to Your Smartphone. He discusses Nikon SnapBridge, O.I. Share and Fujifilm Xapp. "One thing that I noticed with all three camera apps is that the more I use them and connect, the better they seem to work," he writes.
  • In Not Getting the Internet Speeds You're Paying for? Here's Why, Terry White explains the limitations of WiFi and advantages of newer WiFi protocols as well as Ethernet.
  • Jasenka Grujin offers 13 Prom Photography Tips. "Prom photography can be demanding and not everything will go as planned," she warns.
  • Rob Haggart profiles a Commercial/Editorial Photographer with two years experience making $5.9K, who hasn't quit his day job.
  • Howard Oakley has released his free Metamer 1.3, which provides "quick and convenient access to 16 of the most commonly used extended attributes for attaching metadata to files" including copyright.
  • Blake Brittain reports Judge Pares Down Artists' AI Copyright Lawsuit Against Midjourney, Stability AI. U.S. District Judge William Orrick said "the artists could file an amended complaint against the two companies [Midjourney and DeviantArt], whose systems utilize Stability's Stable Diffusion text-to-image technology," he writes.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
