In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Photos of the Week, AP's Week in Pictures, the best camera and Google Photos.

  • Alan Taylor presents 35 Photos of the Week including chilly swimmers in China, a deadly earthquake in Nepal, figure skating in France, Israeli attacks in Gaza, Palestinians fleeing from Gaza City, a proposal at the New York City Marathon, flooding in Somalia, a shrinking reservoir in Turkey and more (not to mention the lead image of a cruise ship ducking under the Golden Gate Bridge).
  • The Associated Press presents its Week in Pictures curated by AP photo editor Eloy Martin in Spain. "A woman collects flowers to be used in rituals and decorations for the Diwali Festival in India. Britain's King Charles III gives the King's Speech during the State Opening of the British Parliament at Westminster Palace in London. Former U.S. President Donald Trump sits at his civil fraud trial in New York, a case that threatens his real estate empire. And Argentinians celebrate the 23nd annual Pride Parade in Buenos Aires."
  • Mike Johnston likes The Best Camera in the "Top Picks of the Year" issue of Consumer Reports. Because there are a lot of full green bars and black check marks on cameras, unlike microwaves. Can't really go wrong.
  • Hans Hartman reveals What We Learned About Google Photos from John Fisher. "Crucial to Google Photos' success has been its clearly defined mission that caters to a universally shared human need: visual storytelling and reminiscing," he writes.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
