Saturday matinees long ago let us escape from the ordinary world to the island of the Swiss Family Robinson or the mutinous decks of the Bounty. Why not, we thought, escape the usual fare here with Saturday matinees of our favorite photography films?
So we're pleased to present the 527th in our series of Saturday matinees today: The Sierra Gold.
This 3:15 video is a compilation of six years of "chasing the fall colors in Eastern Sierra region of California" by videographer Nao Tharp.
"While many people go unnoticeable of such vibrant fall foliage existing in California, I have been capturing its beauty in a way a set of human eyes cannot see since 2015," he says.
In fact, his technical approach does render images you do not see with your eyes, particularly of the night sky.
"My work is characterized by advanced timelapse cinematography featuring immersive imagery of natural and urban scenery in dramatically changing lighting conditions, which human eyes cannot perceive [if not] otherwise shot on cameras," he explained in a recent interview.
"I try to capture and share the sense of being in the landscape by creating a cinematic camera movement using a proprietary motion control system. It provides a shot with a sense of perspective and first person's view for a more immersive visual experience."
As he says himself, "Hope you enjoy and I encourage you to take a trip to see it in person."
