Matinee: Watson's Kyrgyzstan Share This on LinkedIn   Tweet This   Forward This

Saturday matinees long ago let us escape from the ordinary world to the island of the Swiss Family Robinson or the mutinous decks of the Bounty. Why not, we thought, escape the usual fare here with Saturday matinees of our favorite photography films?

So we're pleased to present the 528th in our series of Saturday matinees today: Watson's Kyrgyzstan.

This 1:37 video by Belfast commercial photographer Richard Watson highlights the natural beauty of Kyrgyzstan, an independent Central Asian country bordered by China that attained sovereignty after the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991.

Watson describes himself:

Based in Belfast, I have been one of Northern Ireland's leading commercial photographers for over a decade. Although well established within the advertising world, it's my love for travel and landscape photography that truly inspires me. I've been fortunate that my love of photography has taken me to many breathtaking countries. As well as shooting the incredible landscapes and vistas, it's also the personality of each country I strive to reflect through my imagery of the people I meet along the journey, in a fresh, unique and contemporary style.

The video begins with drone clips but shifts to stills around the 1:20 mark. Watson will be leading a workshop there from June 30 to July 10 in 2024.

A number of his stills from Kyrgyzstan, Vietnam and Peru plus a wide range of landscape photography from Ireland are available for sale on his Web site.
