In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Asia, medical challenges, Z System compatibility, reluctant portraits and Salvador Daí's studio.

  • The Associated Press presents The Extraordinary, Tragic and Wonderful from its photographers in Asia this year.
  • Brazilian photographer André François has been capturing Medical Challenges Around the World since 2005. His latest photo book brings together 13 years of work across 15 countries.
  • In Compatibility and the Z System, Thom Hogan suggests Nikon's standards are complicated but not conspiratorial. He mentions five companies that provide safe third-party alternatives and warns against Chinese lens makers.
  • In The Reluctant Portrait, Derrick Story shares some tips on getting a little more cooperation at holiday gatherings.
  • Grace Ebert reviews rare photographs by Coco Capitán that document Salvador Daí's Seaside Home and Studio. "Casa Dalí spans 96 pages of images that spotlight the small home on Spain's Costa Brava that Dalí and his wife Gala bought in 1930 and transformed into a characteristically dreamlike space: a snarling lion peers out from under a geometric archway, small figurines stand guard encircling an outdoor water feature and a regal canopy sweeps high above two identical beds," she writes.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
