In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at AP's week, Andriana Nativio, Lydia Ho, Roy DeCarava, A Cambridge Diary, a 50-year-old Nikkormat's secrets, a Voigtlander 75mm lens, digital vs. film, USB charging and next year.

  • The Associated Press presents its Week in Pictures for last week curated by AP photo editor Anita Baca in Mexico City. They include an old pre-Christmas tradition in the Czech Republic, divers dressed as mermaids, Israeli forces and Hamas militants and Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai.
  • Marigold Warner reviews Andriana Nativio's ongoing project As We Rest in the Shadows, an intimate portrait of two sisters. "The images plunge us into a dreamlike world, where sisters Jae and Jenni roam freely through forests and fields, swimming in creeks and rescuing injured animals," she writes.
  • Legacy of a Luthier spotlights Malaysian photographer Lydia Ho's images f a violin builder in his atelier.
  • In Honoring the Legacy of a Groundbreaking Photographer, Carrie Mae Weems and Dawoud Bey reflect on the influence Roy DeCarava has had on them. That influence extended to the Getty, Antares Wells notes, where the exhibit Dawoud Bey & Carrie Mae Weems: In Dialogue has been mounted on black walls to accustom the eyes to the dark prints.
  • In Cambridge Photographer Ends Daily Challenge After 13 Years and 5,000 Images, Donna Ferguson presents a few images from Martin Bond's A Cambridge Diary project. "I feel a bit sad -- I'm going to miss doing it," he said. "And I'm worried I might spend the day in bed now." The project has now been compiled into a new book Town & Gown.
  • Ghosts on the Glacier (gift link) by John Branch and Emily Rhyne reveals the secrets a 50-year-old Nikkormat 35mm camera kept in 24 shots about two hikers who died in 1973 on Aconcagua.
  • Kirk Tuck explains how it came about that he ordered a Voigtlander 75mm f1.9 M Ultron Lens instead of a Leica 75mm APO Summicron S to reward himself for 2023.
  • Lloyd Chambers has published some reader comments on his evaluation of Digital vs. Film.
  • Thom Hogan offers The Charging Checklist for USB charging of Z System cameras. It's not as easy as it sounds, apparently.
  • Hogan expects "a busy January through April with covering new product announcements" now that Tokyo is "in high gear again," he predicts in The Year Ahead Will Be Different.

Yesterday was the 11th anniversary of Photo Corners, which we usually celebrate online. But who's counting?

Here's a look back five years. And please support our efforts...
