We have been enjoying some spectacular sunsets this fall. The sun, which usually sets to the right of our picture window, now takes center stage.
But this one yesterday was special. It reminded us of the poem by Nobel laureate Salvatore Quasimodo on the short duration of life.
Ed È Subito Sera
Ognuno sta solo sul cuor della terra
raffito da un raggio di sole:
ed è subito sera.And Suddenly It's Evening
Each of us stands at the center of things
basking in a ray of sunshine:
and suddenly it's evening. It's our silent prayer at every funeral service. But yesterday we said it at Mom's bedside after she had passed away.
And later that day this glorious golden sunset said goodbye to the day and to her long life, so well lived.
