Saturday matinees long ago let us escape from the ordinary world to the island of the Swiss Family Robinson or the mutinous decks of the Bounty. Why not, we thought, escape the usual fare here with Saturday matinees of our favorite photography films?

So we're pleased to present the 533rd in our series of Saturday matinees today: Journey as a Photographer.

This 5:48 video of the Florida swamps was shot by Rudy Wilms. He and his wife Veerlen have teamed up to photograph the natural beauty of the state, capturing "the emotion and story that goes along with it." He focuses on landscapes while she chases wildlife and both photograph the endangered orchids of Florida.

Rudy introduces this video:

We made this video to take you on a journey and show you a glimps of the beauty of the swamps and nature in Florida and what it takes to be a photographer in sometimes difficult conditions.

Must say that this is the cleaned up version where you don't see us fighting an army of mosquitoes or slipping and falling in the mud. Or having a cottonmouth snake slapping between my legs and luckily not biting me, nor one of the alligators following us around.

No this is just a sneak peek of what we see and take pictures of. We became addicted to swamp walking when in search of the Ghost orchid that took us two years before we found a blooming one and from then on we fell in love of taking pictures of all the endangered orchids we find in the swamp.

Rudy fell in love with photography in 1992 when he lived in Belgium. "I had my own little dark room and made most pictures in sepia and black-and-white," he says. "It didn't take long before I bought my first video camera and ever since then, video and photography have been an essential part of my life."

Both an award-winning photographer and videographer, Rudy's images have been published by ABC TV, National Geographic, Discovery Channel, The Herald Tribune and Earth Justice.
