In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at the Oscars, camera makers, nuts and bolts, photo festivals and fairs plus a princess edits her family photo.

  • There's the Red Carpet, the Oscars Ceremony and Oscars Afterparties to scroll through at The Guardian.
  • Camera Makers Make Their Own Problems, Thom Hogan argues after reading "a Japanese article lamenting the fact that all the good compact cameras are currently unobtainable."
  • Kirk Tuck writes that it's the Nuts and Bolts of Camera Gear that make the difference. The topic came up because "I forgot that the camera I selected was the one camera that doesn't have a built-in diopter or an accessory diopter added on. I need a +2.0 diopter on the eyepiece of my Leica M cameras if I am to focus correctly."
  • LensCulture lists this year's Photo Festivals & Photo Fairs. "Even if you cannot attend in person, their Web sites have a wide variety of inspiring material," the editors note.
  • Princess of Wales Says She Edited Family Photo Recalled by Picture Agencies. "Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing," she said in a statement on social media. "I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother's Day. C." Yesterday was Mother's Day in the U.K. Kevin Rawlinson discusses the Telltale Signs of Editing. It's probably just evidence of a composite.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
