In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Ramadan, monochrome, fruit merchants, Scheherazade Tillet, Lamington National Park Rainforest, street portraits, a solar eclipse, a comet and a BorrowLenses used gear sale.

  • The Associated Press features photos of Ramadan being celebrated around the world.
  • A Century of Monochrome Magic showcases 250 significant photographs from the Bibliothè€que Nationale de France complemented by over 30 works from the M+ Collection in Hong Kong on exhibit until July 1.
  • Grace Ebert presents Trung Don's aerial street photos of the Fruit Merchants of Hanoi.
  • In Life Has Not Stopped for Grief, Scheherazade Tillet preserves the memory of Breonna Taylor in words and photographs.
  • Julieanne Kost takes us on a trek through the rainforest at Lamington National Park Rainforest with Tim Robbins. The park is prized for birds and bird photography. But she finds more than that to capture before she works on her images in Lightroom Classic:

  • Introduce Yourself, Kirk Tuck suggests when taking street portraits. "I'm anxious with every encounter in the streets. Perhaps more so since witnessing a brutal attack on the trails a few months ago. But I continue to try to make photographs of strangers because it's interesting to me," he writes.
  • Jamie Carter provides eight tips in How to Photograph a Solar Eclipse With a Smartphone. "On April 8, six states in northwest Mexico, 15 U.S. states and six provinces in Canada will be visited by a total solar eclipse," he writes. "Totality (and only totality) can be viewed by the naked eye and imaged using cameras and smartphones without solar filters."
  • Then too, 12P/Pons-Brooks, a Halley-type comet larger than Mount Everest and with a 71.3-year orbit, will be visible to the naked eye around April 21.
  • On the heels of its acquisition by LensRentals, BorrowLenses is offering 25 percent off during its Used Gear Sale, which ends Mar. 21. The discount includes free shipping and a three day inspection period.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
