A little birdie told us today is the first day of spring. So we charged the battery, put a card in the camera and holstered our Nikon D300 and 18-200mm Nikkor for a trek up Twin Peaks.

First Day of Spring. Nikon D300 with 18-200mm zoom at 200mm (300mm equivalent), f5.6, 1/500 second and ISO 200. Processed in Adobe Camera Raw.

How could we not take a photo on the first day of spring?

So we took, well, 27 photos. Frequent breaks, some people in hiking shoes call them. We prefer to call them photo opportunities not to be missed.

Like this one of the perfect California poppy, open to the sun on the first day of spring. Did we mention it's the first day of spring?

Who wouldn't stop for that?
