Only a few minutes (very few) before we encountered this dancing cactus, we had been walking down the street in a hail storm. Fortunately we had been prepared for rain and slipped our hood on. But we were not prepared for a dancing cactus.

Dancing Cactus. iPhone 15 Pro Max back triple camera at 6.8mm, f1.8, 1/4049 second and ISO 80. Processed in Adobe Camera Raw.

It wasn't easy to see the cactus, frankly. The color scheme and front yard treatment camouflaged it.

But there was no mistaking the thing as we crossed the street. It's huge.

We wondered how old it was as we continued on but then we stopped. Let's take a picture, we thought.

We lined it up quickly, snapped one shot and got back on the trail. We didn't want to alarm the homeowner if they were peeking out the window.

We cropped the image down to just the cactus to give it the prominence it deserves but the larger crop (corrected for distortion) shows the scene as we came across it.

The only thing missing, of course, it the music. We like to think it was a mariachi band that drove away the hail and made the sun shine while the cactus danced.

We can almost hear it now if we close our eyes.
