Yesterday was atypical. The medical appointment wasn't for Joyce but for us. And it nothing to with our emergency room visit on Monday. It was our annual wellness visit.

We park in the neighborhood at Mission Bay. It's always sunny. And flat. And industrial. Well, now it's quite the medical compound, but we enjoy parking in the industrial area and walking to the medical side.

To do that, you have to cross the tracks. Railroad tracks. For Caltrain that runs down the peninsula to San Jose.

We had our Nikon 200 with the unrepaired 18-200mm Nikkor mounted on it. As we approached the crossing under the freeway, we took it out.

Why are we using the unrepaired zoom when we have a repaired version at our disposal? Well, the images are fine, it's just a hiccup when we focus that's the problem. And we can live with that (and the money the repair would cost). If we need a repaired one, we have one. But it's instructive to live with the one that needs repair as long as it works.

Unfortunately, there's nothing photogenic about the scene. But it is alarming how many signs are posted. We had to skip a few to make out appointment on time, but there's no way an attentive driver can possibly take them all in crossing the tracks.

Some of them, of course, are intended for inattentive pedestrians. A man with a camera among them.

We crossed twice yesterday and heard three trains. But there are no photos trains in today's slide show. Just ominous warnings of them.

You can think of it as a metaphor for an annual wellness check-up. Lots of warning signs. No train.
