In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at immigration courts, Gaza's tent camps, Jun Fujita, Sudanese photographers, a gift guide and a camera stand project.
- The Associated Press documents Trump's Takeover of Immigration Courts. "Instead of straightforward hearings, asylum seekers often find their cases dismissed, allowing them to be immediately re-arrested and placed in expedited removal proceedings." More on this here from the Associated Press, which has been observing immigration court proceedings in 21 cities.
- Reuters photographs the Overcrowded Tent Camps in Gaza sheltering two million Palestinians.
- Sarah Gilbert features images by Japanese-American photojournalist, poet and artist Jun Fujita of early 20th century Chicago, including Al Capone.
- Kate Mothes presents the photographs of Sudanese photographers documenting a "forgotten war" in Resistance in Memory: Visions of Sudan on exhibit through Mar. 22, 2026, in New York City.
- Derrick Story's Photographer's Gift Guide may include a few things to put on your own list.
- Brian Lawler continues his Camera Stand Project with "working drawings and my engineering drawings so that others might make a similar camera stand. It requires precision, but anyone with metal-working skills and basic tools should be able to make a similar device. A CNC machine or milling machine would be helpful, but you could do this with a bandsaw, a drill press and a set of mill files."
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
