In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Tehran, Kapikoy, Viva Gibb, subjects and swollen batteries.
- Vahid Salemi's photo of Black Spots on Clothespins in Tehran "captures elements of everyday life in Tehran that have been directly affected by the war," he says. "I have previously documented the effects of war on civilian life, but this work also highlights its negative impact on the environment -- particularly air pollution and contaminated rain, which caused the black spots visible on clips in the photo."
- Dilara Senkaya photographs Iranian families and lone travelers escaping the war at the Kapikoy Border Gate in Turkey's Van province.
- Viva Gibb's Portraits of Ordinary Lives in Melbourne, Australia, from the 1970s and 1980s are on exhibit there until Aug. 7.
- What Are You Taking a Picture Of? John Connell wonders before providing a few options that complicate the answer. "Every photograph you have ever taken is a record of a causal event that can never be repeated," he writes. Well, not true of still lifes and studio test shots, but you get the idea.
- A Reddit poster asks, How Do I Get This Stuck Battery Out? It's not just stuck, though, it's swollen. Surprised no one mentioned duct tape. But seriously, your only sane option is to take it to a repair shop where they can safely remove it.
