In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention (with more than 140 characters). This time we look at the Overseas Press Club awards, Guetzli on an iPhone image, a Rocky Nook sale and a BorrowLenses deal.

  • In The Times Sweeps Overseas Press Club Photo Awards, James Estrin presents 28 photos representing the publication's impressive achievement. The secret? Director of Photography Michele McNally said, "You take an incredibly talented group of photographers, put them on the most important stories and let it run as long as it needs to!"
  • John Guber gave Google's Guetzli a try. The new JPEG decoder took eight minutes "to process a single iPhone camera image on my 5K iMac."
  • Get 40 percent off you entire purchase at Rocky Nook's Spring Cleaning Sale when you use the code SPRING2017 at checkout.
  • BorrowLenses is offering a 15 percent discount all summer when you use the code WEDSEASON17 at checkout. It's a little tricky, though. The deal is valid through March 3 but the discount "can be used limitless on the same gear" until Sept. 30.

We've updated our Sigma 135mm Art lens story to reflect the new shipping date of April rather than May. We've also updated our Calendar today. More to come! Meanwhile, please support our efforts...
