In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Sports Photos of the Year, the Year in Arts, Harold Davis, Nathan Khalsa, Thom Hogan, success, LensCulture's best and a KEH discount.
- The Associated Press has published its Sports Photos of the Year, "unforgettable snapshots that gloriously capture the soaring euphoria and gut-wrenching agony of the games we love, not to mention the randomness of a moment that might've gone unnoticed otherwise."
- The New York Times presents 59 Photographs That Defined the Year in Arts (gift link).
- In Best of 2023, Harold Davis presents his annual personal choice of his best work. "My choices are idiosyncratic, based on no discernible criteria whatsoever and simply are my personal taste," he writes. He's been doing this since 2013.
- Heidi Volpe interviews Nathan Khalsa about his shoot for Bikepacking magazine.
- Thom Hogan wonders, How Far Have Cameras Come? "We've made considerable progress. Enormous progress in some areas," he writes.
- Derrick Story reflects on The Fourth Ingredient in a Recipe for Success. "I was thinking about all of the great tools I have access to for my photography -- sophisticated cameras, intelligent software, tons of information," he writes. "Special images require a fourth ingredient and that's the subject of today's lead story."
- LensCulture has published its 15 Most Popular Photo Stories from this year, "a mix of new discoveries, photobook reviews, interviews, essays, exhibitions and visual stories."
- KEH is having a sitewide and storewide holiday sale through Sunday, Dec. 31, with a 20 percent discount. Use the code SAVE20.
