In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Vintage America, a Voigtlander 75mm on medium format, camera sensor color accuracy, KEH/MPB vs. eBay and new visual tech sector technologies.

  • Mee-Lai Stone presents images of Vintage America from Sage Sohier's new book Passing Time. (Tim Adams earlier featured another we noted).
  • Kirk Tuck tries his Voigtlander 75mm f1.9 VM on his Fujifilm GFX. "Since my fastest native GFX lens hits its limits at f3.5 it was nice to be able to mess with even shallower depth of field with the 75mm used at f1.9, f2.0 and f2.8," he writes. Monochrome slide show included.
  • Jim Kasson shows how the Visible Noise and CFA Filter Spectra of various camera sensors affect their color accuracy in a three part series. All three parts are available. You can follow on to the next part from the green banner link at the end of the piece.
  • In KEH/MPB vs. eBay, a Reddit poster who has sold a lot of gear on eBay compares "the offer from those players and the net proceeds from selling on eBay." Old story in new clothes (resellers offer less) but the comments include a variety of seller experiences with all three options.
  • In Three Technologies That Will Dominate the Visual Tech Sector in 2024, Paul Melcher identifies Generative AI in visual content:, Extended Reality (as in XR, VR and AR) and Neural Radiance Fields with Gaussian splatting. "These technologies are not just elevating the realism in virtual spaces but are also crucial in applications ranging from e-commerce, advertising, media, film production to scientific visualization," he writes.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
