In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Eid Al-Fitr, sports, Dekotora, a Man Ray auction and Sears Portrait Studio codes.

  • Elena Goodinson curates images of Eid Al-Fitr Celebrations Around the World as Muslims mark the start of the three-day festival at the end of Ramadan.
  • The Associated Press presents its Sports Week in Pictures including shots of Caitlin Clark in the women's NCAA championship game, soccer action in Europe and the Formula One Grand Prix in Japan.
  • Suzanne Sease features Dekotora, the personal project of Todd Anton who photographs the decorated Japanese trucks whose elaborate design costs sometimes run over $100,000.
  • Kim Willsher reports Man Ray's Violon D'Ingres sold at auction for €120,000, double the upper range of the catalog estimate. The auction from the Ray collection of Marion Meyer included several self-portraits and portraits of major literary and artistic figures including Jean Cocteau, Louis Aragon, Pablo Picasso, Marcel Proust, James Joyce, Elsa Schiaparelli and Catherine Deneuve.
  • A Reddit poster wonders how to decode Sears Portrait Studio codes printed on the edge of old prints to determine the date of the print. An answer on Stack Exchange breaks one code down, suggesting its from a Fujifilm Frontier automatic film processing lab and contains no date information.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
