The third Official Results of the 2024 Presidential Greatness Project Expert Survey are now in. And what better day to review them than Presidents' Day?
The survey, conducted by Brandon Rottinghaus of the University of Houston and Justin S. Vaughn of Coastal Carolina University at the end of last year, asked 524 academics from the American Political Science Association, to rate each president from Washington to Biden on a scale of 0 to 100, with 50 being average. Just 154 academics replied.
RANKINGS
Here are the top 10:
- Lincoln (93.87)
- Franklin Delano Roosevelt (90.83)
- Washington (90.32)
- Teddy Roosevelt (78.58)
- Jefferson (77.53)
- Truman (75.34)
- Obama (73.8)
- Eisenhower (73.73)
- Lyndon B. Johnson (72.86)
- Kennedy (68.37)
And just to balance the scale, here are the bottom 10:
- Hoover (34.08)
- Tyler (32.99)
- Taylor (32.97)
- Fillmore (30.33)
- Harding (27.76)
- Harrison (26.01)
- Pierce (24.6)
- Andrew Johnson (21.56)
- Buchanan (16.71)
- Trump (10.92)
Apparently, even when it comes to presidents, you can run but you can't hide.
RUSHMORE
Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt are immortalized on Mt. Rushmore but if these academics had a chisel, the one they would add would be:
- Franklin Delano Roosevelt (65.4%)
- Obama (11%)
- Eisenhower, Madison, Kennedy (4% each)
TAKING THE DAY
We make a habit of taking federal holidays seriously so we'll stop there and put our feet up while the wheels of justice grind exceedingly fine if somewhat slowly.
